okay so hello I'm Henry Jenkins the director of comparative media studies here at MIT um about two weeks after the Coline massacre in Littleton Colorado I got called before the US Senate Commerce Committee to testify on the relationship of youth culture and violent entertainment and the thing that struck me when I was in that room was that there were all kinds of adults sitting around the table talking about young people their relationship to technology their relationship to culture their relationship to schooling and to each other and not a single young person in the room except my son who was then a teenager who would tagged along to see his father testify and it struck me that that that there was a lot missing from the picture that was being given in Washington as they were trying to set policies that would affect education that would affect the regulation of entertainment in terms of an understanding of young people's relationship to technology so I set about ...

My name's Henry and today, I'll be presenting my findings on an experiment that I conducted with my lab partner Adin over there. Thank you, Adin During our experiment, we determined the angular dependency of the scattering rate of alpha particles through gold foil. Using this relation, we are able to determine that Rutherford's scattering presents an accurate model for these scattering of effects. In doing so, we are able to extract some information about the actual nature of atoms and their atomic makeup. So to give a bit of background, I'm going to go through two different historical models of the atom and talk about the different experimental predictions that they predict.
